Reseach often has such things as Purify, Power Up, or even Evolve a given type of Pokemon. So how do you know which Pokémon to grab for that task? Pre-select them with Tags for the purpose. This way, when you get such a Research, you just open that tag and process that many of the Pokémon. Clearing out by most recent also keeps some potential traders as long as you don't have to use up the whole queue.
Queue Tags I have:
- PowerUp
- Evolve
- Purify n Dump
- Evolve4XP
- Trade Candidate
- BuddyPlay
- BuddyAdventure
- BuddyReady
- Defenders
- Challenge1
and others I'm still experimenting with
PowerUp and Evolve should be self explanitory. You find Pokémon you wish to power up and/or evolve. Put them in that appropriate queue(s). Then you let the research and challenges be the driver for the bulk of them. Building attack groups for much desired targets are certainly a good exception to that 'rule' of these tags. Don't let these tags be a straitjacket to stop you from building a great team as needed.
Purify n Dump: When you catch a shadow Pokémon, don't just automatically purify as the game mythos drives us to do, but evaluate them. There are those that make excellent attackers so keep those. There are those you don't have much candy for that you don't want to waste candy on that you either use a defenders or transfer them.
Evolve4XP: Largely for events where you see any field research for evolving specific types of Pokémon and you have more than enough others in your main Evolve tag. I started this when there a stream of Evolve Dark or Ghost around Halloween 2024, where I just saved all those types of fresh caught Pokémon during the event. I built up some nice little stashes of Mega Energy for a bunch of Pokémon as a result.
Trade Candidate: Of course some Pokémon need either a trade or lots of candy, so this makes a good spot to keep them. And then there are those Pokémon you have from a distance (while on trips) along all the other reasons they may make a nice trade offerings.
Buddy*: The queues for managing my Buddies as I work them in parrallel to maximize their useage and heart collection.
Defenders: Collecting good Gym Defender options for quicker selecting, even if just to show they've been tagged. This is just one the many I'm still sorting out for best usage. If only the game let us open a tag for selecting which Pokémon to leave defending.
Challenge1 (and Challenge2) They could be called Team1 and Team2 instead. I started them for tracking Challenge related Pokémon, which I will still do. I now use them more for when building a team to take on a RAID or such. As I figure out what Pokémon will be good for the attack, I collect them here, and then trim down to the top 9 or so.. Then in the Battle Party selector, I can select them so easily from the Tag. Having more than just the minimum with the tag means you can swap out of your party if you find that one you selected was subpar for the battle and want to tune for the next one.
